Jul. 7th, 2010 @ 02:52 am New Toyota recall affects Lexus, Crown sedans

Toyota continues to have communication problems. Reuters reports the automaker had failed to alert the U.S. government about a new Toyota recall involving one Toyota and seven Lexus sedan models. This time, engine issues are to blame. Excessive noise and even the potential for stalling have been documented. The recall will reclaim around 270,000 vehicles.

More than half of all of Toyota recall autos are from the US

About 137,000 cars out of the 270,000 being recalled are US. Accident or injury data has yet to be reported regarding this round of Toyota recalls, which is chance, considering that Toyota says the stall can occur while a Lexus or Crown sedans in question is being driven. This is fairly good news for the Toyota business, whose previous bouts with recalls and the U.S. government have led to accidents, injuries and massive fines. As well as lambasting in the court of public opinion, Toyota’s credit rating dived down dramatically. Recalling more than 10 million cars worldwide has a tendency to produce such undesirable results.

In the recall, what are the models?

When the Toyota recall will not be official until government regulators rule on the matter, the eight models that will be in this latest recall would include:

  • There’s the Lexus LS 460

  • The Lexus GS 350.

  • The Lexus GS 450h

  • The Lexus GS 460.

  • Lexus IS 350

  • There’s the Lexus LS 600h

  • Lexus LS 600hl

  • The Toyota Crown sedan

The Lexus LS 600h isn’t sold within the US. It is a gasoline-electric hybrid model if it has an “h”. All models that are in the latest Toyota recall have either 4.6- or 3.6-liter engines, as outlined by the automaker. The specific engine issue is a defective valve spring that causes all of the idling troubles and also some possible engine failure.

An additional huge blow to Lexus line

Lexus 250h had plug pulled just last week by Toyota. Crash tests sponsored by the US government showed that if the HS 250h was struck from behind by a automobile traveling at 50 mph, a fuel leak could very easily develop. That recalled back 17,000 cars, 13,000 which came from the United States. Toyota conducted its own tests on the matter and claimed it could not reproduce the same result. There also haven’t been any accidents reported with the HS 250h.
